Why Travelers Are Gravitating Towards National Parks for their Family Vacations

There are plenty of popular vacation options in almost every state in the US. Some people prefer theme parks, and some prefer lying on a beach. Over the past few years, more and more travelers have been moving away from the traditional vacation spots and gravitating towards our wonderful National Parks. Have you ever wondered why it is that families are forgoing that trip to Disneyland to instead take in the beauty of our nation’s parks? Keep reading to learn why travelers are gravitating towards National Parks for their family vacations.

Hit TV Show Yellowstone

For starters, let us thank Kevin Costner. Thanks to the popularity of hit TV show Yellowstone, that gorgeous park in the state of Wyoming has been seeing far more travelers over the last few years. The TV show does so well to promote the breathtaking scenery of one of our nation’s true gems. The big city dwellers will enjoy spending their days in the great outdoors instead of than waiting in a line for the next big theme park attraction.

Teach the Children

National Parks also do well to teach children about conservation, nature, and history. When visiting, it is a good time to educate young people about why the National Parks are important to this country. They play a large part in protecting wildlife and maintaining some precious ecosystems. There is no better way to instill a love of nature into children than exposing them to all these parks offer at a very early age.

Physical Activity

Another reason for the uptick in travelers is the amount of physical activity that can be enjoyed when visiting a national park. Many people enjoy burning a few calories each day, and the parks will offer so many opportunities to do so. Most of them feature hiking, kayaking, and fishing. It is a great alternative to eating funnel cake and hanging out in a hotel room.

Doesn't Break The Bank

Lastly, most people are not looking to go into debt to pay for a yearly family vacation. A trip to one of our National Parks is a far more affordable option than trips to other popular destinations. For example, entrance to the Grand Canyon National Park costs just $35 per vehicle. For that price, visitors can hike trails, pet burros, and take in the spectacular views that this world wonder boasts. When the big city prices keep going up, it makes sense that travelers would be interested in saving a few pennies by taking the family to visit a National Park.

When considering all that our National Park system has to offer, it is no wonder why the parks are now seeing a resurgence in popularity in recent years. Travelers are being exposed to them through popular TV shows, they are a great learning opportunity, they offer tons of physical activity, and they will not break the bank. If you have a family vacation to plan, consider ditching the typical trip and venturing out to explore a National Park.
