German Chocolate Cake Recipe

Cake Recipe Ingredients
1 cup unsalted butter
2 cups granulated sugar
6oz semi-sweet chocolate
4 large eggs
2 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup milk
2 tbs vegetable oil
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda 1 tsp salt

Cake Cooking Directions

Combine butter and sugar, mix. Add melted chocolate, mix. Add eggs, vanilla, buttermilk, milk, and oil, mix. Add flour, baking soda, salt, and fold until smooth. Divide batter between three 8 inch round cake pans, smooth out. Bake for 35-45 min or until done. Cool on wire rack.

Prep Time: 15 min
 
Frosting Ingredients
1 cup unsalted butter  (melted)
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup packed brown sugar
2 cups evaporated milk
2 tsp vanilla extract
6 egg yolks

Frosting Directions

Once butter is melted add remaining ingredients and simmer for 10 min while stirring. It will thicken. Once completed, leave to cool for 30 min. Place one layer of cake down and frost and top with coconut flakes and walnuts. Continue with all cake layers, frosting, coconut, walnuts. Frost the top and add toasted coconut flakes on top. Slice and enjoy!
